The British head of Sri Lankan Airlines faces dismissal after the national carrier refused to bump passengers off a flight from London to make way for the President of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Government, which owns 51 per cent of the airline, said yesterday that it was cancelling a work permit for Peter Hill, who has been the carrier’s chief executive, based in Colombo, for eight years. It cited the airline’s refusal to clear 35 seats for Mahinda Rajapaksa and his entourage on a flight from London via the Maldives to Colombo on December 13.

His father was killed, he had lived a lifetime in a refugee camp, he had to go through a wall to go to school, his head was filled with diverse conflicting emotions, and yet he was playful. And at the end of our conversation he sidled up to me with a grin and said, “Madam, why does the UN talk so much and do so little?” I hope the international community’s implementation of concepts like the Responsibility to Protect in a fair and responsible manner will enable me to return to Palestine and face that young man again.

Melbourne Sinhala man from Sri Lanka - Killer of in-laws gets 27 years jail

A Melbourne man has been sentenced to 27 years' jail for the murder of his parents-in-law.
Sarath Laksham Hettiarachchi killed Sammy and Iranganie Perera at his Hallam home, south-east of Melbourne, on March 7 last year by stabbing them to death.He must serve a minimum of 22 years.Handing down the sentence, Supreme Court Justice Betty King said Hettiarachchi, 47, had conducted the killings in a "savage and agitated manner" and shown no remorse.The court heard Hettiarachchi's wife Badrakanthi watched helplessly as her husband stabbed her father, who was nursing his four-month-old granddaughter and then went on to attack her mother.

Tamil groups not terrorists: VICTORIAN Premier John Brumby, Australia
vicpremier.jpgVICTORIAN Premier John Brumby has rejected calls for an investigation into two grants his Government made to a group accused of being a front for the Tamil Tigers, because the militant separatist organisation and its local allies are not classified as terrorist organisations.

"They're not investigated by us," he said. "The Victorian Multicultural Commission is not ... a law agency.

"There's a process with the federal Government in relation to terrorist organisations."

Tamil Community urged to morally and financially support Aruran,Yathavan and Rajeevan's legal battle

auslawers0.jpgPROTAM a grass root level Australian Tamil Organisation lead by prominent Tamil Community leaders and professionals,urges all concerned Australian Tamils to provide moral and financial support to Aruran Vinayagamoorthy, Sivarajah Yathavan and Arumugam Rajeevan who are charged with so called Terror Charges. Defence Lawers for Tamil Community Workers Aruran, Yathavan and Rajeevan, Robert Stary and Associates,  in a letter addressed to Tamil Community, confirmed that it is completely lawful and legitimate to financially support the legal process which has international significance. Australian authorities are relying on ‘intelligence’ and assurances provided by Sri Lankan agencies. In fact, in the first bail hearing, the prosecution argued that it will rely on evidence provided by the Sri Lankan Attorney-General, Solicitor-General, Army and Police chiefs. The Sri Lankan foreign ministry is on record saying that they have been actively “encouraging” Australian authorities.
